Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, animal fats exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 238% against the previous year. Ethiopia (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) were the main destinations of animal fats exports from Indonesia, with a combined 93% share of total exports.

In value terms, Ethiopia ($X), Angola ($X) and Comoros ($X) were the largest markets for animal fats exported from Indonesia worldwide, with a combined 97% share of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Angola, with a CAGR of +60.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average animal fats export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -17.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Indonesia
In 2021, purchases abroad of animal fats and oils decreased by -62% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 540% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, animal fats imports declined sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 692%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of animal fats to Indonesia, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, animal fats imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +80.1%.
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of animal fats and oils to Indonesia, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with an 18% share of total imports.

The average animal fats import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -32.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 204%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for France amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
