Blueberry And Cranberry Market Size in Indonesia

The Indonesian blueberry and cranberry market contracted notably to $X in 2022, declining by -16% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, showed a significant increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Exports from Indonesia

In 2022, overseas shipments of blueberries and cranberries were finally on the rise to reach X kg after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a dramatic slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 360% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a precipitous setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 607%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China (X kg) was the main destination for blueberry and cranberry exports from Indonesia, accounting for a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, blueberry and cranberry exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Saudi Arabia (X kg), fourfold. The Netherlands (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to China stood at -2.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (-45.6% per year) and the Netherlands (-31.8% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for blueberries and cranberries exports from Indonesia, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 2.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China amounted to -20.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (-44.2% per year) and Thailand (-55.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average blueberry and cranberry export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -26.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 84% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Blueberry And Cranberry Imports

Imports into Indonesia

In 2022, blueberry and cranberry imports into Indonesia contracted to X tons, with a decrease of -10.7% against 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 339% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 232%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Spain (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main suppliers of blueberry and cranberry imports to Indonesia, with a combined 52% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Argentina (with a CAGR of +85.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest blueberry and cranberry suppliers to Indonesia were Australia ($X), Spain ($X) and New Zealand ($X), together comprising 67% of total imports. Argentina, France, the United States, Chile, China and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Argentina, with a CAGR of +80.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average blueberry and cranberry import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -7.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the price for Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
