As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, wooden joinery and carpentry exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The UK (X tons), the United States (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of wooden joinery and carpentry exports from Indonesia, with a combined 54% share of total exports. Japan, South Africa, Australia, China, South Korea, France, Germany, India and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +24.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wooden joinery and carpentry exported from Indonesia were the United States ($X), the UK ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 59% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Japan, Australia, China, France, South Africa, Germany, South Korea, Canada and India, which together accounted for a further 32%.
Among the main countries of destination, China, with a CAGR of +21.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average wooden joinery and carpentry export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight slump. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Indonesia
In 2021, overseas purchases of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood increased by 27% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -9.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wooden joinery and carpentry imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest wooden joinery and carpentry supplier to Indonesia, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, wooden joinery and carpentry imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X tons), with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +14.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-7.4% per year) and the UK (+27.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood to Indonesia, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with an 8.6% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +24.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-7.9% per year) and the UK (+23.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average wooden joinery and carpentry import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 7.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wooden joinery and carpentry import price increased by +60.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
