Malaysia (X tons) was the main destination for citric acid exports from Indonesia, with a 38% share of total exports. Among the main countries of destination, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +159.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Citric acid imports into Indonesia expanded remarkably to X tons in 2021, surging by 9.3% compared with 2020 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 15%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, citric acid imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest citric acid supplier to Indonesia, accounting for a 87% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia (X tons), with a 2.3% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was taken by Brazil (X tons), with a 2.1% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
