For the third consecutive year, Indonesia recorded growth in overseas shipments of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres, which increased by 26% to X tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +26.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from Indonesia, together accounting for 95% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +37.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres exports from Indonesia, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to China totaled -5.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+34.1% per year) and South Korea (+18.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (-2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Indonesia
In 2022, the amount of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres imported into Indonesia surged to X tons, increasing by 100% against 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre to Indonesia, accounting for a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Philippines (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Brazil amounted to +4.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+85.1% per year) and the Philippines (+19.2% per year).
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Indonesia, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kenya ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Brazil totaled +10.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kenya (+10.5% per year) and the Philippines (+9.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while the price for Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
