In 2022, the Indonesian common pottery market decreased by -3.1% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after six years of growth. In 2022, shipments abroad of common pottery increased by 31% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a deep slump. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, common pottery exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons), France (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of common pottery exports from Indonesia, together accounting for 64% of total exports. South Korea, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Hong Kong SAR, Italy, Mexico, Brazil and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +73.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for common pottery exported from Indonesia were the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 64% of total exports. The UK, the Netherlands, South Korea, Belgium, Australia, Italy, Hong Kong SAR, Mexico and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, common pottery export price decreased by -5.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 26% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Indonesia

In 2022, overseas purchases of common pottery decreased by -46.6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 624% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, common pottery imports reduced notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 173% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Thailand (X tons), China (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main suppliers of common pottery imports to Indonesia, together accounting for 97% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 1.9%.
