China (X tons) was the main destination for copper bars, wire and plates exports from Indonesia, accounting for a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, copper bars, wire and plates exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X tons), with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to China amounted to +3.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+0.6% per year) and Thailand (-6.0% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for copper bars, wire and plates exports from Indonesia, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to China totaled +4.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+2.4% per year) and Thailand (-3.9% per year).

The average export price for copper bars, wire and plates stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 47% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Indonesia
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of copper bars, wire and plates increased by 26% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main suppliers of copper bars, wire and plates imports to Indonesia, with a combined 52% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +9.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Thailand ($X) and South Korea ($X) appeared to be the largest copper bars, wire and plates suppliers to Indonesia, together comprising 53% of total imports.
