Copper Wire Market Size in Indonesia

After three years of decline, the Indonesian copper wire market increased by 3.9% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a slight curtailment. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons) was the main destination for copper wire exports from Indonesia, with a 43% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X tons), with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to China amounted to +2.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+0.8% per year) and Thailand (-6.6% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for copper wire exports from Indonesia, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to China stood at +3.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+2.4% per year) and Thailand (-4.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average copper wire export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, copper wire export price increased by +47.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($X per ton) and Bangladesh ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Indonesia

In 2021, supplies from abroad of copper wire increased by 68% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, copper wire imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a modest increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main suppliers of copper wire imports to Indonesia, with a combined 68% share of total imports. Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Taiwan (Chinese) and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +154.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest copper wire suppliers to Indonesia were Malaysia ($X), Thailand ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan (Chinese) and Japan, which together accounted for a further 34%.

The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +190.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average copper wire import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 29%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
