Electronic Chip Market Size in Indonesia

The Indonesian electronic chip market was estimated at $X in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. In 2021, overseas shipments of electronic chips were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a mild decline. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electronic chip exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Singapore (X units) was the main destination for electronic chip exports from Indonesia, with a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, electronic chip exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X units), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X units), with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Singapore stood at -2.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+201.9% per year) and the United States (+20.8% per year).

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the key foreign market for electronic chips exports from Indonesia, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 4.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 1.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Singapore stood at -3.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-1.3% per year) and Brazil (+64.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average electronic chip export price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 5.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Mexico (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+16.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Indonesia

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of electronic chips, when their volume increased by 10% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Japan (X units), China (X units) and South Korea (X units) were the main suppliers of electronic chip imports to Indonesia, with a combined 79% share of total imports. Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +1.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest electronic chip suppliers to Indonesia were South Korea ($X), China ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a combined 73% share of total imports.

The average electronic chip import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 26% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, electronic chip import price increased by +95.5% against 2013 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit), while the price for Japan (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
