Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -2.5% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 47%. The exports peaked at X cubic meters in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, fiberboard exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +77.2% against 2017 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Egypt (X cubic meters), Japan (X cubic meters) and Iran (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of fiberboard exports from Indonesia, with a combined 51% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +38.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X), Egypt ($X) and Iran ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for fiberboard exported from Indonesia worldwide, together accounting for 60% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Japan, with a CAGR of +36.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average fiberboard export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, rising by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Indonesia
In 2022, the amount of fiber board of wood or other ligneous materials imported into Indonesia contracted modestly to X cubic meters, dropping by -2.7% on 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 43%. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fiberboard imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 53%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
New Zealand (X cubic meters), Malaysia (X cubic meters) and Thailand (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of fiberboard imports to Indonesia, with a combined 76% share of total imports. China and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +24.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fiber board of wood or other ligneous materials to Indonesia, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from New Zealand amounted to +1.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-9.0% per year) and Thailand (+0.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average fiberboard import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were China ($X per cubic meter) and Vietnam ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Thailand ($X per cubic meter) and Malaysia ($X per cubic meter) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
