In 2021, after three years of decline, there was growth in overseas shipments of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines, when their volume increased by 2.8% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a sharp decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 235% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports fell slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 228% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
India (X tons) was the main destination for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports from Indonesia, accounting for a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Timor-Leste (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to India stood at -11.6%.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines exports from Indonesia, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Timor-Leste ($X), with a 1.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to India amounted to -9.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Timor-Leste (+12.9% per year) and Singapore (-66.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average export price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 103%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Timor-Leste ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Myanmar (+34.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine
Imports into Indonesia
In 2021, approx. X tons of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines were imported into Indonesia; picking up by 11% compared with 2020. In general, imports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 106% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, faced a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 74%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Malaysia (X tons) was the main supplier of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine to Indonesia, with a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports from Malaysia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Malaysia amounted to -6.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+42.8% per year) and Japan (-62.8% per year).
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines to Indonesia, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 10% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Malaysia amounted to -7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+36.7% per year) and Japan (-55.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average import price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -12.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+18.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
