Honey Market Size in Indonesia

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was decline in the Indonesian honey market, when its value decreased by -1% to $X. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed a strong increase. Honey consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, honey production shrank modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Exports from Indonesia

Honey exports from Indonesia surged to X tons in 2022, rising by 17% on the year before. Overall, exports, however, recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 263% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, honey exports expanded to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 243% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) were the main destinations of honey exports from Indonesia, together comprising 98% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Malaysia (with a CAGR of +149.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for honey exported from Indonesia worldwide, with a combined 98% share of total exports.

In 2022, the average honey export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 92%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+13.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Indonesia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of honey decreased by -6.5% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 104% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, honey imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 109% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Thailand (X tons), New Zealand (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main suppliers of honey imports to Indonesia, with a combined 71% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for New Zealand (with a CAGR of +62.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest honey suppliers to Indonesia were New Zealand ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Thailand ($X), together accounting for 80% of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, New Zealand, with a CAGR of +58.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average honey import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 8.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 23% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
