Insecticide Market Size in Indonesia

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Indonesian insecticide market, when its value decreased by -9.7% to $X. In general, consumption, however, saw a resilient increase. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 27%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, insecticide exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +32.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The Philippines (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) were the main destinations of insecticide exports from Indonesia, together comprising 52% of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Japan, Vietnam, Pakistan, South Africa, China and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +76.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X), Thailand ($X) and China ($X) were the largest markets for insecticide exported from Indonesia worldwide, with a combined 48% share of total exports.

China, with a CAGR of +97.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average insecticide export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, insecticide export price increased by +87.9% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 35% against the previous year. Imports into Indonesia

Insecticide imports into Indonesia declined to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -7.5% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, insecticide imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 52%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of insecticide to Indonesia, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, insecticide imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fourfold. Singapore (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +14.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+14.1% per year) and Singapore (+14.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), Singapore ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest insecticide suppliers to Indonesia, with a combined 65% share of total imports. South Korea, India, Malaysia and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

South Korea, with a CAGR of +74.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average insecticide import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 43% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
