Paper Label Market Size in Indonesia

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Indonesian paper label market, when its value decreased by -8.3% to $X. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +41.5% against 2016 indices. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, paper label production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, the total production indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +52.1% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports from Indonesia

In 2021, overseas shipments of labels of paper or paperboard were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a sharp reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 63%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, paper label exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, faced a sharp downturn. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Pakistan (X tons), India (X tons) and Djibouti (X tons) were the main destinations of paper label exports from Indonesia, together accounting for 71% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +62.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Pakistan ($X), India ($X) and Djibouti ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for paper label exported from Indonesia worldwide, with a combined 69% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, India, with a CAGR of +32.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Export Prices by Country

The average paper label export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nigeria (+20.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Indonesia

In 2021, approx. X tons of labels of paper or paperboard were imported into Indonesia; increasing by 43% on the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +78.1% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, paper label imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest paper label supplier to Indonesia, accounting for a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, paper label imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hong Kong SAR (X tons), fourfold. South Korea (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +8.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+1.1% per year) and South Korea (-9.4% per year).

In value terms, the largest paper label suppliers to Indonesia were Hong Kong SAR ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X), together accounting for 70% of total imports. Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan (Chinese), Japan and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +27.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average paper label import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
