In 2021, the Indonesian non-medical x-ray market increased by 54% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, consumption continues to indicate buoyant growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

For the third year in a row, Indonesia recorded decline in shipments abroad of non-medical x-rays, which decreased by -34.9% to X kg in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 399%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports dropped markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 363% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X kg), Malaysia (X kg) and Singapore (X kg) were the main destinations of non-medical x-ray exports from Indonesia, with a combined 90% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Malaysia (with a CAGR of +38.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-medical x-rays exports from Indonesia, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Malaysia totaled +50.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+44.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+0.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average non-medical x-ray export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 55%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+12.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Non-Medical X-Ray Imports
Imports into Indonesia
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of non-medical x-rays, when their volume increased by 66% to X tons. Overall, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 80%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 220%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-medical x-ray imports to Indonesia, together accounting for 62% of total imports. China, Japan, the UK, the Netherlands and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +27.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-medical x-ray suppliers to Indonesia were Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 48% of total imports.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +35.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-medical x-ray import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -10.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+38.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
