In 2022, overseas shipments of ploughs for agricultural purposes were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 77%. The exports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plough exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Nigeria (X units) was the main destination for plough exports from Indonesia, accounting for a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, plough exports to Nigeria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Dominican Republic (X units), sevenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Nigeria totaled +21.5%.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the key foreign market for ploughs for agricultural purposes exports from Indonesia, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by the Dominican Republic, with a 21% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Nigeria totaled +11.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (-7.3% per year) and the Dominican Republic (+26.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average plough export price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 96% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Caledonia (+187.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of ploughs for agricultural purposes increased by 81% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 247%. Imports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plough imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 224% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest plough supplier to Indonesia, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, plough imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X units), fourfold. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +27.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+18.5% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+27.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of ploughs for agricultural purposes to Indonesia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +32.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+22.0% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+25.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average plough import price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 85%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
