Potato Market Size in Indonesia

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Singapore (X tons) was the main destination for potato exports from Indonesia, accounting for a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, potato exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Singapore stood at -2.3%.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the key foreign market for potato exports from Indonesia, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Singapore amounted to +1.2%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average potato export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.7% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, potato export price increased by +46.4% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+12.6%).
Potato Imports
Imports into Indonesia
In 2021, approx. X tons of potatoes were imported into Indonesia; rising by 29% against 2020. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 57% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, potato imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
India (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main suppliers of potato imports to Indonesia, together comprising 71% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +64.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X), Germany ($X) and Egypt ($X) appeared to be the largest potato suppliers to Indonesia, together accounting for 61% of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +56.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average potato import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
