Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, refined copper exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports faced a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 46%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Malaysia (X tons), China (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main destinations of refined copper exports from Indonesia, with a combined 78% share of total exports.

Imports into Indonesia
In 2022, refined copper imports into Indonesia declined dramatically to X tons, falling by -16.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 15%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, refined copper imports reduced notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 60%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
Japan (X tons), China (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) were the main suppliers of refined copper imports to Indonesia, with a combined 77% share of total imports. Myanmar, Chile, South Korea and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by South Korea (with a CAGR of +70.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest refined copper suppliers to Indonesia were Japan ($X), China ($X) and the Philippines ($X), with a combined 77% share of total imports. Chile, South Korea, Myanmar and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
South Korea, with a CAGR of +68.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average refined copper import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -6.1% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, refined copper import price increased by +43.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
