Exports from Indonesia
In 2022, rum exports from Indonesia fell remarkably to X litres, dropping by -33.5% against 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 5,001%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, rum exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 6,834% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Thailand (X litres), the Czech Republic (X litres) and Germany (X litres) were the main destinations of rum exports from Indonesia, with a combined 85% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +108.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the key foreign market for rum exports from Indonesia, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Czech Republic amounted to +99.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+82.0% per year) and Germany (+53.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average rum export price stood at $X per litre in 2022, with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 87% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Timor-Leste ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+15.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Indonesia
After four years of decline, purchases abroad of rum increased by 21% to X litres in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 420%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X litres. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, rum imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 456%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of rum to Indonesia, accounting for a 25% share of total imports. Moreover, rum imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Jamaica (X litres), twofold. Italy (X litres) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India amounted to +46.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Jamaica (-0.2% per year) and Italy (+24.4% per year).
In value terms, Jamaica ($X), India ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest rum suppliers to Indonesia, with a combined 22% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, France, the UK, Cuba, Canada, Brazil, Nicaragua, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela, which together accounted for a further 30%.
Canada, with a CAGR of +26.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average rum import price amounted to $X per litre, increasing by 2.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 24% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per litre), while the price for Venezuela ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
