In value terms, rusks and toasted bread production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +35.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 41% against the previous year. Exports from Indonesia
For the third year in a row, Indonesia recorded growth in shipments abroad of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products, which increased by 2.2% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 96%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, rusks and toasted bread exports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) were the main destinations of rusks and toasted bread exports from Indonesia, with a combined 72% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +62.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for rusks and toasted bread exported from Indonesia were Malaysia ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Australia ($X), with a combined 69% share of total exports.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +56.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average rusks and toasted bread export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Timor-Leste ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Rusks, Toasted Bread and Similar Toasted Products
Imports into Indonesia
In 2021, supplies from abroad of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products decreased by -8.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, rusks and toasted bread imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -23.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The UK (X tons), China (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main suppliers of rusks and toasted bread imports to Indonesia, with a combined 71% share of total imports. Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Philippines (with a CAGR of +1,322.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the UK ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products to Indonesia, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the UK totaled +53.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Australia (+6.7% per year) and China (+115.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average rusks and toasted bread import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 23% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
