Screwdriver Market Size in Indonesia

The Indonesian screwdriver market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Indonesia

In 2021, the amount of screwdrivers exported from Indonesia contracted rapidly to X tons, waning by -43.2% compared with the year before. Overall, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 212%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, screwdriver exports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 265%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China (X tons), Timor-Leste (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main destinations of screwdriver exports from Indonesia, with a combined 80% share of total exports. Singapore, Taiwan (Chinese), Sri Lanka and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +150.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the largest markets for screwdriver exported from Indonesia worldwide, with a combined 60% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Timor-Leste, Sri Lanka, Taiwan (Chinese) and the United States, which together accounted for a further 30%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Sri Lanka, with a CAGR of +157.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average screwdriver export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Timor-Leste ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sri Lanka (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Indonesia

After four years of decline, overseas purchases of screwdrivers increased by 36% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, screwdriver imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main supplier of screwdriver to Indonesia, accounting for a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, screwdriver imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.1% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+18.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of screwdrivers to Indonesia, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with an 11% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +4.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+7.8% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+38.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average screwdriver import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -10.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
