In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -19.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Timor-Leste (X litres), Singapore (X litres) and Vietnam (X litres) were the main destinations of soft drink exports from Indonesia, together accounting for 43% of total exports. These countries were followed by Hong Kong SAR, Myanmar, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, China, Oman, Nigeria, the United States and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 48%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +89.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for soft drink exported from Indonesia were Nigeria ($X), Singapore ($X) and Timor-Leste ($X), together comprising 42% of total exports. These countries were followed by Hong Kong SAR, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, China, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and the United States, which together accounted for a further 46%.
Myanmar, with a CAGR of +78.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average soft drink export price stood at $X per litre in 2021, waning by -7.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of soft drinks was finally on the rise to reach X litres for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 51%. Imports peaked at X litres in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, soft drink imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 36%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Malaysia (X litres), Thailand (X litres) and South Korea (X litres) were the main suppliers of soft drink imports to Indonesia, with a combined 96% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in South Korea (with a CAGR of +35.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest soft drink suppliers to Indonesia were Malaysia ($X), Thailand ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 88% share of total imports.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per litre), while the price for Malaysia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
