For the third year in a row, the Indonesian titanium ore and concentrate market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 39% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, titanium ore and concentrate exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. In 2022, the average titanium ore and concentrate export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China totaled $X per ton.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of titanium ores and concentrates decreased by -5.1% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 27%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, titanium ore and concentrate imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Australia (X tons) constituted the largest titanium ore and concentrate supplier to Indonesia, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, titanium ore and concentrate imports from Australia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X tons), with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Australia was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-6.8% per year) and Thailand (-7.9% per year).

In value terms, Australia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of titanium ores and concentrates to Indonesia, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 4.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Australia stood at +1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+6.0% per year) and South Africa (-8.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average titanium ore and concentrate import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 38% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted a pronounced increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+15.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
