France, South Africa, Timor-Leste, Thailand, Singapore, Mexico, Taiwan (Chinese) and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +96.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for twine and cordage exported from Indonesia were Vietnam ($X), the United States ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 59% share of total exports. France, South Africa, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan (Chinese), Timor-Leste, Mexico and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
Among the main countries of destination, France, with a CAGR of +71.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Indonesia
Twine and cordage imports into Indonesia soared to X tons in 2022, picking up by 23% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, twine and cordage imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest twine and cordage supplier to Indonesia, accounting for a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, twine and cordage imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by South Korea (X tons), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +10.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+27.2% per year) and South Korea (+5.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of twine, cordage, rope and cables to Indonesia, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +15.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+39.9% per year) and South Korea (+6.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average twine and cordage import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 6.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 22% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
