Vegetable Product Market Size in Indonesia
After four years of growth, the Indonesian vegetable product market decreased by -0.7% to $X in 2022. Vegetable Product Production in Indonesia

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 557%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
The average yield of vegetable products in Indonesia shrank modestly to X tons per ha in 2022, which is down by -1.9% against 2021 figures. Overall, the yield, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the yield increased by 6.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average vegetable product yield hit record highs at X tons per ha in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the harvested area of vegetable products in Indonesia shrank slightly to X ha, which is down by -2.6% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, the harvested area continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the harvested area increased by 6.2%. Exports from Indonesia
In 2022, overseas shipments of vegetable products decreased by -14.8% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 84%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, vegetable product exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons) was the main destination for vegetable product exports from Indonesia, accounting for a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, vegetable product exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tons), eightfold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to China totaled +8.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+6.0% per year) and Thailand (+5.7% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for vegetable products exports from Indonesia, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 9.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Australia, with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China amounted to +23.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+16.0% per year) and Australia (+71.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average vegetable product export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 50% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+116.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vegetable Product Imports
Imports into Indonesia
In 2022, approx. X tons of vegetable products were imported into Indonesia; reducing by -46% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 100%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.
In value terms, vegetable product imports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 441% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest vegetable product supplier to Indonesia, with a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable product imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +56.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-9.6% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+24.6% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vegetable products to Indonesia, comprising 86% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with an 11% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +57.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-6.7% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+12.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average vegetable product import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -48.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 205% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
