Animal Fats Market Size in Iran

The Iranian animal fats market shrank significantly to $X in 2021, waning by -24.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw perceptible growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In 2021, the amount of animal fats and oils exported from Iran skyrocketed to X tons, surging by 240% on the previous year. In general, exports recorded a significant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, animal fats exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 271% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Azerbaijan (X tons) was the main destination for animal fats exports from Iran, with a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, animal fats exports to Azerbaijan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Iraq (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Azerbaijan stood at +94.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iraq (+48.3% per year) and Turkey (-17.6% per year).

In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X) remains the key foreign market for animal fats and oils exports from Iran, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Iraq ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Azerbaijan totaled +63.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iraq (+62.6% per year) and Turkey (-14.2% per year).

The average animal fats export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After four years of decline, supplies from abroad of animal fats and oils increased by 359% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 383% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, animal fats imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 602%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, India (X tons) was the main supplier of animal fats to Iran, with a approx. 99% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India stood at -1.2%.
