After two years of decline, the Iranian market for anise, badian, fennel and coriander increased by 110% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of anise, badian, fennel and coriander, when their volume decreased by -68% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 229%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 225%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports from Iran, accounting for a 47% share of total exports. Moreover, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X tons), twofold. Bahrain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Turkey stood at +104.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+8.6% per year) and Bahrain (+25.2% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for anise, badian, fennel and coriander exported from Iran were Japan ($X), Turkey ($X) and India ($X), with a combined 79% share of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, India, with a CAGR of +162.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 212% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Iran
In 2022, approx. X tons of anise, badian, fennel and coriander were imported into Iran; which is down by -21.6% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports saw a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 841%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 751% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, India (X tons) was the main supplier of anise, badian, fennel and coriander to Iran, accounting for a 96% share of total imports. It was followed by Tanzania (X tons), with a 2.8% share of total imports.
