In 2022, the Iranian broom, brush, and mop market increased by 1.4% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, saw a abrupt decrease. Broom, brush, and mop consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

After three years of decline, shipments abroad of brooms, brushes, and mops increased by 12% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 578% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 379%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X units), Kazakhstan (X units) and Kyrgyzstan (X units) were the main destinations of broom, brush, and mop exports from Iran, with a combined 63% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +355.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Armenia ($X) were the largest markets for broom, brush, and mop exported from Iran worldwide, together accounting for 59% of total exports. Turkey, Uzbekistan, Switzerland and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 39%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Iran

In 2022, supplies from abroad of brooms, brushes, and mops increased by 10% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 51%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of broom, brush, and mop to Iran, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, broom, brush, and mop imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X units), sevenfold. Germany (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at -7.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+2.5% per year) and Germany (-7.5% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of brooms, brushes, and mops to Iran, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.3% share.
