Canned Vegetable Market Size in Iran

The Iranian canned vegetable market declined slightly to $X in 2022, reducing by -1.8% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the market value increased by 8.9% against the previous year. Canned vegetable consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of canned vegetables decreased by -4.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, canned vegetable exports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 41% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for canned vegetable exports from Iran, accounting for a 18% share of total exports. Moreover, canned vegetable exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X tons), with a 6% share.

Ukraine, with a CAGR of +503.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average canned vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 14% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 30%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
