From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Turkey (X units) was the main destination for smart card exports from Iran, with a 74% share of total exports. Moreover, smart card exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kazakhstan (X units), sixfold. Switzerland (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Turkey amounted to -3.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+9.1% per year) and Switzerland (+15.9% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the key foreign market for cards incorporating an electronic integrated circuit (smart card) exports from Iran, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Switzerland, with a 0.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Turkey totaled -5.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+16.5% per year) and Switzerland (-17.2% per year).

Imports by Country
In 2022, Singapore (X units) constituted the largest smart card supplier to Iran, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, smart card imports from Singapore exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR (X units), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Singapore amounted to +31.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-25.1% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+4.1% per year).

The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 4.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 2.5% share.
