Exports from Iran
In 2022, overseas shipments of carrots and turnips decreased by -8.4% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 169%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, carrot and turnip exports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 224% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Exports by Country
Armenia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Oman (X tons) were the main destinations of carrot and turnip exports from Iran, with a combined 91% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Oman (with a CAGR of +86.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Armenia ($X) remains the key foreign market for carrots and turnips exports from Iran, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Armenia totaled +57.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+25.3% per year) and Oman (+85.5% per year).

In 2022, the average carrot and turnip export price amounted to $X per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Iran
In 2022, after nine years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of carrots and turnips, when their volume increased by 101% to X kg. In general, imports, however, faced a dramatic decline. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, carrot and turnip imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a sharp downturn. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X kg) was the main supplier of carrot and turnip to Iran, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, carrot and turnip imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X kg), more than tenfold.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+27.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
