Dolomite Market Size in Iran

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Iranian dolomite market, when its value increased by 8.9% to $X. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. Dolomite consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, exports of chalk and dolomite from Iran fell modestly to X tons, with a decrease of -4% against 2020 figures. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 226%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite exports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 139%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Armenia (X tons) was the main destination for dolomite exports from Iran, accounting for a 99% share of total exports. It was followed by Azerbaijan (X tons), with a 1.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Armenia amounted to +1.1%.

In value terms, Armenia ($X) remains the key foreign market for chalk and dolomite exports from Iran, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Azerbaijan ($X), with a 1% share of total exports.

The average dolomite export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 23%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Armenia (-4.8%).

Imports into Iran

In 2021, overseas purchases of chalk and dolomite increased by 64% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 116%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 141%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

South Korea (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of dolomite imports to Iran, together accounting for 94% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +51.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chalk and dolomite to Iran, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 9.1% share.
