In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X) remains the key foreign market for cheese exports from Iran, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Azerbaijan stood at +36.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+75.8% per year) and Armenia (+26.0% per year).

In 2021, the average cheese export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -34.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 9%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 145%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cheese imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 150%. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) were the main suppliers of cheese imports to Iran, together accounting for 100% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Denmark ($X) appeared to be the largest cheese suppliers to Iran, with a combined 99% share of total imports.
