Exports from Iran
In 2021, overseas shipments of chicken meat decreased by -3.8% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after four years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 734% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chicken meat exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 744%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main destinations of chicken meat exports from Iran.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +92.2%).
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) remains the key foreign market for chicken meat exports from Iran, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Hong Kong SAR totaled +97.6%.
Export Prices by Country
The average chicken meat export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 16% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, chicken meat export price increased by +103.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+2.8%).
Chicken Meat Imports
Imports into Iran
In 2021, purchases abroad of chicken meat increased by 11% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a precipitous contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 134% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chicken meat imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 122%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of chicken meat to Iran, accounting for a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, chicken meat imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X tons), sevenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to -6.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-38.8% per year) and Turkey (-44.1% per year).
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chicken meat to Iran, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with an 11% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the United Arab Emirates totaled -9.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-42.0% per year) and Turkey (-46.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average chicken meat import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a deep reduction. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
