Concentrated Grapefruit Juice Market Size in Iran

The Iranian concentrated grapefruit juice market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after three years of decline. In general, consumption saw a perceptible downturn. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate modest growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 432% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Kuwait (X tons) was the main destination for concentrated grapefruit juice exports from Iran, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, concentrated grapefruit juice exports to Kuwait exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Thailand (X kg), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Malaysia (X kg), with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Kuwait totaled +9.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+16.0% per year) and Malaysia (-15.7% per year).

In value terms, Kuwait ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for concentrated grapefruit juice exports from Iran, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 9.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Kuwait amounted to +10.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+11.2% per year) and Malaysia (-14.4% per year).

In 2021, the average concentrated grapefruit juice export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 72% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the fourth year in a row, Iran recorded decline in supplies from abroad of concentrated grapefruit juice, which decreased by -59% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice imports dropped markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest concentrated grapefruit juice supplier to Iran, with a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, concentrated grapefruit juice imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Kuwait (X tons), with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates stood at -2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-22.1% per year) and Kuwait (-3.7% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest concentrated grapefruit juice suppliers to Iran, together comprising 96% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Germany, with a CAGR of +15.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

The average concentrated grapefruit juice import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 65% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
