In 2021, the Iranian concentrated orange juice market was finally on the rise to reach $X after four years of decline. In general, consumption, however, saw a deep setback. Concentrated orange juice consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of concentrated orange juice were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 9,759% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice exports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 10,392% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Armenia (X tons), Australia (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) were the main destinations of concentrated orange juice exports from Iran, together accounting for 52% of total exports. These countries were followed by the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, the UK, Germany and Kuwait, which together accounted for a further 39%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Kuwait (with a CAGR of +53.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Armenia ($X), Australia ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the largest markets for concentrated orange juice exported from Iran worldwide, with a combined 54% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Pakistan, Kuwait, Turkey, Germany and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Among the main countries of destination, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +36.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average concentrated orange juice export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -18.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, concentrated orange juice export price increased by +21.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 55% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 54% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of concentrated orange juice to Iran, accounting for a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, concentrated orange juice imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), fourfold. Kuwait (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to -4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+157.3% per year) and Kuwait (+8.7% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Kuwait ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the largest concentrated orange juice suppliers to Iran, together accounting for 79% of total imports.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +159.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

The average concentrated orange juice import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -40.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 32% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
