Toy Market Size in Iran

After two years of decline, the Iranian toy market increased by 3.4% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption showed resilient growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, toy exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 481% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Oman (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Georgia (X tons) were the main destinations of toy exports from Iran, together accounting for 32% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +124.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X), Oman ($X) and Georgia ($X) were the largest markets for toy exported from Iran worldwide, together accounting for 31% of total exports.

Oman, with a CAGR of +81.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average toy export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -17.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Georgia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Iran

In 2021, purchases abroad of dolls and toys decreased by -25.1% to X tons, falling for the fifth year in a row after five years of growth. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 78%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, toy imports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 105% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main supplier of toy to Iran, accounting for a 162% share of total imports. Moreover, toy imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +20.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-20.8% per year) and Oman (+28.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dolls and toys to Iran, comprising 122% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 2.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +26.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-21.9% per year) and Oman (+13.0% per year).

In 2021, the average toy import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 34% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
