Dry Vegetable Market Size in Iran
The Iranian dry vegetable market rose remarkably to $X in 2022, increasing by 8.6% against the previous year. In 2022, approx. X tons of dry vegetables were exported from Iran; which is down by -4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dry vegetable exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 61%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for dry vegetable exports from Iran, with a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, dry vegetable exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), fourfold. Canada (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Turkey stood at +86.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+9.1% per year) and Canada (+2.0% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for dry vegetables exports from Iran, comprising 20% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Australia ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany totaled +13.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Australia (+8.0% per year) and Canada (+2.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average dry vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -14.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 42%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (+21.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Iran
In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of dry vegetables, when their volume increased by 5.6% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dry vegetable imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest dry vegetable supplier to Iran, accounting for a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, dry vegetable imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X tons), with a 2.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India amounted to +11.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+26.0% per year) and Turkey (+85.1% per year).
In value terms, Hungary ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dry vegetables to Iran, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Hungary stood at +31.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+10.7% per year) and Bulgaria (+64.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average dry vegetable import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 90% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a remarkable increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
