The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 777%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, eggplant exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 843% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for eggplant exports from Iran, accounting for a 39% share of total exports. Moreover, eggplant exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Azerbaijan (X tons), twofold. Qatar (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates totaled +25.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Azerbaijan (+33.4% per year) and Qatar (+30.1% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for eggplant exported from Iran were Azerbaijan ($X), Russia ($X) and Qatar ($X), together accounting for 66% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates, Armenia, Oman, Afghanistan and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Armenia, with a CAGR of +95.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average eggplant export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, eggplant export price increased by +62.2% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 37% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, imports of eggplants (aubergines) into Iran skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 224% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 5,734%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, eggplant imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant increase.
