In general, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Tajikistan (X tons), Georgia (X tons) and Afghanistan (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight X-150 g/m2 in sheets from Iran, with a combined 92% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Georgia (with a CAGR of +74.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tajikistan ($X), Georgia ($X) and Afghanistan ($X) were the largest markets for graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight X-150 g/m2 in sheets exported from Iran worldwide, with a combined 90% share of total exports.

For the sixth year in a row, Iran recorded decline in overseas purchases of graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight X-150 g/m2 in sheets, which decreased by -16.3% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports showed a precipitous contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 22%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
