Gypsum And Anhydrite Market Size in Iran
After two years of growth, the Iranian gypsum and anhydrite market decreased by -3.4% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a mild curtailment. Gypsum and anhydrite consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Gypsum And Anhydrite Production in Iran
In value terms, gypsum and anhydrite production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 43%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Iran
In 2021, shipments abroad of gypsum and anhydrite decreased by -27.5% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, exports, however, recorded perceptible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 145% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, gypsum and anhydrite exports shrank to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted modest growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 85% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons), India (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) were the main destinations of gypsum and anhydrite exports from Iran, with a combined 83% share of total exports. These countries were followed by China, Qatar, Bahrain and Armenia, which together accounted for a further 17%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +312.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for gypsum and anhydrite exported from Iran were India ($X), China ($X) and Kuwait ($X), together accounting for 64% of total exports.
China, with a CAGR of +238.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average gypsum and anhydrite export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Gypsum And Anhydrite Imports
Imports into Iran
Gypsum and anhydrite imports into Iran shrank significantly to X tons in 2021, falling by -96.5% compared with the year before. In general, imports showed a precipitous setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 196% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, gypsum and anhydrite imports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 194%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of gypsum and anhydrite to Iran, with a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, gypsum and anhydrite imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to -23.7%.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the largest gypsum and anhydrite suppliers to Iran.
Among the main suppliers, Turkey, with a CAGR of +67.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
The average gypsum and anhydrite import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+410.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
