The Iranian gypsum, anhydrite and limestone market amounted to $X in 2021, growing by 6.7% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a pronounced decrease. Gypsum, anhydrite and limestone consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Gypsum, anhydrite and limestone exports from Iran shrank to X tons in 2021, reducing by -12.2% against 2020. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 78%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -33.5% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), India (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) were the main destinations of gypsum, anhydrite and limestone exports from Iran, together accounting for 79% of total exports. China, Qatar, Bangladesh and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +139.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), Kuwait ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for gypsum, anhydrite and limestone exported from Iran worldwide, with a combined 64% share of total exports.

In 2021, overseas purchases of gypsum, anhydrite and limestone decreased by -97% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 313%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 194% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest gypsum, anhydrite and limestone supplier to Iran, with a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X tons), with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to -16.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+3.7% per year) and India (+4.2% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Turkey ($X) constituted the largest gypsum, anhydrite and limestone suppliers to Iran, together comprising 90% of total imports. India lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 6.2%.

Among the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +25.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

The average gypsum, anhydrite and limestone import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 201% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible slump.
