In 2022, the Iranian non-combined refrigerator-freezer market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 77%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 110%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
Azerbaijan (X units) was the main destination for non-combined refrigerator-freezer exports from Iran, accounting for a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, non-combined refrigerator-freezer exports to Azerbaijan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Iraq (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (X units), with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Azerbaijan amounted to +67.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iraq (+40.6% per year) and Turkey (+69.2% per year).
In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X) remains the key foreign market for household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) exports from Iran, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iraq ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Azerbaijan stood at +58.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iraq (+43.5% per year) and Turkey (+48.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average non-combined refrigerator-freezer export price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -4.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 57%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iraq ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Afghanistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 140%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 118% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X units) constituted the largest non-combined refrigerator-freezer supplier to Iran, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, non-combined refrigerator-freezer imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X units), sixfold. China (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey stood at -4.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (-14.5% per year) and China (-27.2% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) to Iran, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 4.6% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey amounted to -1.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (-23.8% per year) and China (-31.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average non-combined refrigerator-freezer import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, non-combined refrigerator-freezer import price decreased by -14.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while the price for Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
