Maize Market Size in Iran

Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for maize exports from Iran, with a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, maize exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Azerbaijan (X tons), sevenfold.

Imports into Iran

In 2022, maize imports into Iran shrank to X tons, dropping by -5.3% on the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +5.9% against 2020 indices. In 2022, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest maize supplier to Iran, with a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, maize imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Brazil amounted to +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (-10.0% per year) and Romania (+20.0% per year).

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constituted the largest supplier of maize to Iran, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Brazil amounted to +4.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (-12.0% per year) and Romania (+16.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average maize import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -13.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 38%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (-2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
