Man-Made Filament Yarn Market Size in Iran

In 2021, the Iranian man-made filament yarn market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible setback. Man-made filament yarn consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

For the fourth year in a row, Iran recorded decline in shipments abroad of man-made filament yarn, which decreased by -69.2% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 1,472% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, man-made filament yarn exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 880%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Afghanistan (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the main destinations of man-made filament yarn exports from Iran, with a combined 71% share of total exports. Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Armenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +54.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Afghanistan ($X) remains the key foreign market for man-made filament yarn exports from Iran, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with a 9% share.

Overall, export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, approx. X tons of man-made filament yarn were imported into Iran; growing by 49% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
