Mdf Market Size in Iran

In 2021, the Iranian MDF market increased by 19% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, the total consumption indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 1,770%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, MDF exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 1,139%. Exports by Country

Iraq (X cubic meters) was the main destination for MDF exports from Iran, with a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, MDF exports to Iraq exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Senegal (X cubic meters), threefold. Afghanistan (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Iraq totaled +51.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Senegal (+51.8% per year) and Afghanistan (+43.8% per year).

In value terms, Iraq ($X) remains the key foreign market for MDF exports from Iran, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Afghanistan, with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Iraq totaled +64.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Senegal (+73.8% per year) and Afghanistan (+44.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average MDF export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 44%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Afghanistan ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Senegal (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Iran

In 2021, supplies from abroad of MDF increased by 104% to X cubic meters, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, MDF imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, faced a deep downturn. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X cubic meters), China (X cubic meters) and Indonesia (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of MDF imports to Iran, with a combined 67% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +27.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Indonesia ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest MDF suppliers to Iran, together comprising 69% of total imports.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +26.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

The average MDF import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, surging by 16% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Malaysia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (-1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
