Peat Market Size in Iran

After two years of growth, the Iranian peat market decreased by -8.5% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption saw a perceptible setback. Peat consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Imports into Iran

In 2021, purchases abroad of peat was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 65%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, peat imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 97%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Sri Lanka (X tons), Armenia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of peat imports to Iran, together accounting for 42% of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, the Netherlands, the UK, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Ireland, Estonia, Germany and Lebanon, which together accounted for a further 51%.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the price for Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
