Perfume Market Size in Iran
In 2022, the Iranian perfume market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a deep downturn. Perfume consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of perfumes and toilet waters, when their volume decreased by -0.6% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 249%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, perfume exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 272% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined notably in the following year.
Exports by Country
Kyrgyzstan (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of perfume exports from Iran, with a combined 40% share of total exports. Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8.4%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +257,700.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for perfumes and toilet waters exports from Iran, comprising 22% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to France stood at +181.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-4.0% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-1.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average perfume export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -36.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 92%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (+22.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Iran
After five years of decline, overseas purchases of perfumes and toilet waters increased by 31% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 132%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, perfume imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X tons) was the main perfume supplier to Iran, accounting for a 98% share of total imports. It was followed by France (X kg), with less than 0.1% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey amounted to +19.4%.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of perfumes and toilet waters to Iran, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with less than 0.1% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey totaled +13.7%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average perfume import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
