In 2021, purchases abroad of refined maize (corn) oil decreased by -65.3% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a sharp slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 178% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refined maize oil imports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 191% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
