Soap Market Size in Iran
The Iranian soap market contracted to $X in 2021, waning by -6.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, soap production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, overseas shipments of soap decreased by -23.9% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after six years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 215% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, soap exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 295% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Tajikistan (X tons) was the main destination for soap exports from Iran, accounting for a 47% share of total exports. Moreover, soap exports to Tajikistan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Oman (X tons), threefold. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Tajikistan totaled -31.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+105.7% per year) and Uzbekistan (+56.3% per year).
In value terms, Tajikistan ($X) remains the key foreign market for soap exports from Iran, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Armenia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Tajikistan totaled -31.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Armenia (-4.3% per year) and Uzbekistan (+96.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soap export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 57% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+25.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Iran
In 2021, supplies from abroad of soap was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, soap imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 48%. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest soap supplier to Iran, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, soap imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey amounted to +16.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-0.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-15.7% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of soap to Iran, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 7.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey totaled +15.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-2.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-14.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average soap import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 7.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
